Read Filip Kowalkowski's hands-on review of the Reporter 200 TTL and other studio accessories, with advice for photographers choosing their first flash system.

We invite you to read a test and review by Filip Kowalkowski covering the Reporter 200 TTL and other studio accessories.
What equipment should you choose when starting with flash?
Beginners – and even more experienced photographers – often ask which equipment is best for flash photography. There is no single answer: output, power supply, mobility, weight, price, modifiers and stands all matter.
A more useful starting point is to ask what you like to photograph. Do you prefer location work or a studio? Do you want something mobile and powerful while remaining within a sensible budget?
Start with Reporter 200 TTL
Reporter 200 TTL is compact, close in size to a reporter flash, but offers substantially more power. It delivers good-quality light and a strong battery capable of around 400 full-power flashes. It supports HSS, TTL metering, second-curtain sync, manual modes and stroboscopic flash. Interchangeable heads include a Fresnel head for more focused light and a bare-bulb head for even distribution in modifiers.

Reporter 200 TTL can be triggered by radio – the author used Navigator X – as well as by optical slave or cable. Multiple units can work in groups and on different channels. The radio connection remained reliable even over distances of several metres. Colour temperature stays around 5600 K with good consistency across output levels. A modelling light is available with the Fresnel head; it is relatively modest in power but useful in darker conditions.
Simple operation
The menu is straightforward and settings are easy to read on the display. Manual and stroboscopic output can be adjusted from full power to 1/128 in 1/3-stop increments, while TTL compensation ranges from -3 EV to +3 EV. TTL automation performs well, although the reviewer prefers manual control.
At 200 Ws, the flash works very well outdoors but naturally has limits when trying to fill very large modifiers in full midday sun. Two Reporter 200 TTL units can also be combined in a special dual head to create a 400 Ws source.
