Photography workshop – Fall in love with flash

The Quadralite photography workshop took place on 20 August 2022 at Studio Poddasze in Kraków. Instructor Adam Laube guided participants from the basics of flash operation through practical studio lighting techniques. The workshop was aimed mainly at people beginning to work with flash, but more experienced photographers could also refresh and expand their knowledge.
Participants learned several lighting setups and had the opportunity to test Quadralite studio and speedlights, including Move and Up! studio lights, Stroboss and V1 speedlights, and Atlas outdoor lights. We also worked with softboxes, beauty dishes and an optical snoot to show how modifiers change the shape and character of light.
The group of ten participants was divided into two smaller teams. Two models took part in the practical sessions.
Workshop programme
10:00 – theory, welcome, equipment overview and workshop plan.
- Fundamentals of flash, colour and composition.
- Building and managing a creative team.
11:00–15:30 – practical session and photo shoot:
- Navigator system and Quadralite flash operation.
- Working with modifiers.
- One-light setup with softbox.
- Two-light setup: softbox + beauty dish.
- Three-light setup: softbox + beauty dish + snoot.
- Simulating sunlight with a small flash.
- Clamshell lighting with flash and reflector.
- Silhouette lighting.
13:00–13:15 – lunch break.
15:30–16:00 – summary and closing.
Instructor – Adam Laube
Fashion and portrait photographer fascinated by visual arts from an early age. His travels to the UK and Benelux broadened his photographic experience. As a member of the Quadralite / @quadralite team, he creates his work in Kraków.
Why take part?
The workshop combined practical experience with the theory needed to understand studio and speedlight flash. Participants learned both basic and more advanced functions of the lights and explored popular light modifiers and their applications.
